Technical Assistance I

Indonesia currently does not have many international trade lawyers, which is very much needed considering that Indonesia often faces trade remedy investigations initiated by trading partner countries.

Against this backdrop, the Directorate of Trade Defense (DPP) of the Ministry of Trade, in collaboration with the Faculty of Law of the University of Padjadjaran (UNPAD) Bandung, developed an academic trade remedy module, with support from ARISE+ Indonesia.

The module will be used at pre- and post-graduate levels as part of a course on international trade policy (Faculty of Economics) or international trade law (Faculty of Law). The module development aimed to increase Indonesia's knowledge of trade remedies and international trade policy and law to create a pool of trade remedy talent from which the MoT Trade Remedy Directorates and the private sector could recruit and consult.

During the academic module development process, ARISE+ Indonesia senior experts conducted a series of consultations and discussions with lecturers from the Faculty of Law of the Padjadjaran University (UNPAD), Bandung. The Academic Trade Remedy Module draft was then reviewed by the lecturers and presented to the Faculty of Law students of UNPAD to obtain their feedback on 18 October 2022. A one-day sensitization workshop was held on 28 October 2022 to present the final draft of the Academic Trade Remedy Module to lecturers of the Faculty of Law and Faculty of Economics in Indonesian universities to get their feedback as well.
