ARISE+ Indonesia, represented by Arief Safari, the Export Quality Infrastructure Senior Expert, and Prof. Dedi Fardiaz, the Food Safety Senior Expert, participated in a coordination meeting hosted by the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) on Thursday, August 10, 2023. The meeting aimed to discuss mapping food safety data and information across various ministries and institutions. The event was held online and saw participation from representatives of the Fish Quarantine and Quality Control Agency (BKIPM) - Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Plant Quarantine and Vegetable Biosafety Center - Ministry of Agriculture, Director of Supervision of Food Safety and Quality Standards Implementation - National Food Agency, and the Information and Data Centre of BPOM.
During the meeting, Didik Joko Pursito, the Acting Director of Processed Food Distribution Supervision at BPOM, highlighted that this gathering was convened in response to an assessment by ARISE+ Indonesia in 2022. This assessment scrutinized the function and implementation of the Indonesia Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (INRASFF).
Key recommendations from the INRASSF assessment highlighted the need for data harmonization and suggested the integration of food safety data and information, which currently exists across multiple ministries and agencies, into INRASSF. This proposal seeks to ensure that food safety issues are addressed in a comprehensive manner, spanning from upstream to downstream processes.
During the meeting, ARISE+ Indonesia's Senior Food Safety Expert, Prof. Dedi Fardiaz, presented the draft roadmap titled "Integrated National Data Management and Food Safety Incident Information System". This roadmap was developed in response to earlier assessment recommendations proposed by ARISE+ Indonesia. It emphasized the need for an information management system for official control, designed to handle and automatically exchange data, information, and documents related to the food supply chain.
One of the initial steps to establish this Integrated National Data Management and Food Safety Incident Information System is to evaluate existing food safety systems and data within the ministries and institutions designated as Competence Contact Points. These activities are scheduled to begin in September 2023, with support from ARISE+ Indonesia.
