Technical Assistance II

A senior delegation from Indonesia’s Ministry of Investment (BKPM) and Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) have returned from a two-week study- and contact-building visit around Europe, arranged by ARISE+ Indonesia, to visit and meet with world-leading institutions and ecosystems for investment. The delegation visited and met with 22 entities during the visit, which took the delegation to Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark.
The visit began in Brussels, with high-level meetings at the European Commission. A meeting with the Directorate General (DG) for International Partnerships set the scene for the visit, where the delegation discussed how best to leverage the EU’s new flagship financing initiatives and instruments, the Global Gateway and the European Fund for Sustainable Development Plus (EFSD+). Both investment instruments have the potential to deliver transformative socio-economic benefits to Indonesia. The delegation also met with the Directorate General for Climate Action, which shared valuable insights on the EU’s Emissions Trading System (ETS), how it has evolved and adapted since its launch in 2005, and the significant impact the system has had on the EU’s emissions reduction agenda.
From Brussels, the delegation travelled to the Netherlands, where they visited Philips’ Global Innovation Hub, world-leading high-tech and agribusiness ecosystems in Eindhoven and Westland, and held fruitful dialogues with two key Dutch Development Finance Institutions – Invest International and the Dutch Entrepreneurial Development Bank (FMO).
The second week was spent in Sweden and Denmark, where the delegation visited Malmö, a showcase in smart city planning and ecosystem development. Here they met with Sustainable Business Hub – a Triple Helix cluster for sustainability and cleantech, as well as the Swedish Energy agency and a selection of urban mobility, smart city and energy efficiency companies. A visit was also made to Medicon Village in nearby Lund – a world-class life sciences cluster which operates as part of the broader transnational Medicon Valley ecosystem, which spans the southern Swedish region of Skåne and Copenhagen Capital Region. In Denmark, the delegation visited State of Green, a national one-stop-service dedicated to promoting the development of Denmark’s green economy, as well as Kalundborg Symbiosis – a world-leading ecosystem of public and private industrial stakeholders forging a circular economy by sharing excess energy and waste. Meetings were also held with major potential investors, including Vestas and the Investment Fund for Developing Countries.
The delegation has now returned to Jakarta with plenty of promising connections and leads to follow up on.
