Technical Assistance II

National Standardization Agency (BSN), in collaboration with ARISE+ Indonesia, launched the improved TBT (Technical Barriers to Trade) website, developed with support from ARISE+ Indonesia, in a hybrid event on Tuesday (13/12). The launching event was officiated by the BSN Deputy for Standard Implementation and Conformity Assessment, Dr Zakiyah, MM, and the Team Leader of ARISE+ Indonesia Technical Assistance II, Alessandro Martinatto.

"We thank EU funded-ARISE+ Indonesia for developing the BSN-TBT Website very well and hope that the cooperation between BSN and ARISE+ Indonesia will grow stronger to improve Indonesia's Good Regulatory Practice (GRP)," Dr Zakiyah said.

The TBT website was initially developed in 2013 by BSN as Indonesia's National Notification Body and Enquiry Point for the WTO-TBT Agreement to publish notification information from WTO (World Trade Organisation) Members and to provide transparency, as stipulated in the Government Regulation No. 34/2018 on the National Standardization and Conformity Assessment System. Notifying technical regulations, standards, and conformity assessment procedures is vital to prevent creating barriers to international trade and causing trade concerns from WTO member countries. The improved website aimed to increase the participation of relevant ministries and institutions as BSN stakeholders in the discussion of notifications and internal coordination to prevent technical barriers to trade with partner countries.

In collaboration with ARISE+ Indonesia, BSN revamped the TBT website with additional features, including a searching feature for TBT notifications of all WTO Members, analysis results of TBT notifications that potentially hamper Indonesia's international trade with partner countries, a forum platform comprising 13 working groups and the National Commission for the TBT Handling to discuss TBT notifications, and a contact link.

The renewed website was soft-launched during the implementation of the BSN National Quality Month 2022 last October in Palembang, attended online and in-person by 3000 government officials.

"We are happy to support BSN in improving the TBT website and would like to thank BSN for the excellent execution of the program and hope that the improved TBT website will facilitate the TBT Commission and Team finalising the TBT mission more efficiently and effectively," Mr Martinatto said.
