More than sixty participants from private sector (associations, manufacturers, and producers from various industries); lawyers and accountants providing legal, audit, and accounting services; as well as Ministry of Trade officials, attended a half-day workshop in Jakarta on Wednesday 8th May 2019. This workshop, which included a group exercise, aimed to identify the relevant programme of capacity building and training that would be incorporated in the work plan of the four-year ARISE+ Indonesia Trade Support Facility Programme. Mr James Lenaghan, ARISE+ expert responsible for the Trade Facilitation and Remedies and Ibu Pradnyawati, Director of Trade Defense of the Ministry of Trade presented at the workshop.

Ibu Pradnyawati as the keynote speaker delivered a presentation on “Trade Remedy Instrument” which discussed the role played by the Ministry of Trade in dealing with third party investigations and recent statistics on the usage of trade remedy instruments in the world. She also spoke on the expected actions for private sectors and lawyers/consultants in facing the current global phenomenon. Mr Lenaghan explained the techniques and requirements of responding to third party investigations, mistakes often made by respondents, and recommended good practices. The speakers were assisted by Ms Paula Norris, the Team Leader of the ARISE+ Indonesia, who facilitated an interactive session with the participants.

The Trade Remedies Workshop provided a successful forum for the participants to discuss the challenges and the type of technical assistance, support, and training needed from the project in order to improve their capability in responding to third party investigations more effectively. As follow up action, a tailored programme of technical activities for the next 4 years would be formulated based on the feedback from the workshop.
