Representatives of 17 Geographical Indication Protection Communities (MPIGs) took part in a two-day workshop in Jakarta on 23-24 May 2022. The sensitisation training was held following the participation of the MPIGs in the promotional expo F+B Indonesia, 18-21 May 2022, at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta.

On the first day of training, ARISE+ Indonesia's experts delivered the presentation discussing GI Branding and Marketing, Traceability, Internal Control Plan, External Audit and NGICS.

Officers from the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DGIP) and the Directorate General of National Export Development (DGNED) attended and participated in the discussion session.
The celebrity chef who is now proudly promoting Indonesian GIs, Chef Bara Pattiradjawane, and a local brand activist, Arto Biantoro, also spoke at the training.

On the second day of training, the MPIGs visited several businesses to interact directly with potential buyers and partners as part of market linkages facilitation. The programme ended with a visit of the Inaexport centre at the Directorate General for National Export Development of the Ministry of Trade, where they were received by the Director for Export Cooperation, Ms  Ni Made Ayu Marthini. The Director emphasised the importance of developing Indonesian GI exports to tap into high-end market segments especially in Europe, where GI products usually fetch premium prices.

According to ARISE+ Indonesia's expert for the Branding and Promotion of Geographical Indications, Nurmala Martin, ARISE+ Indonesia, in collaboration with the DGIP and DGNED, has promoted 18 Indonesian GI products through online and offline channels since 2019, which included Terra Madre Salone Del Gusto in Italy 2020, Trade Expo Indonesia 2021, Expo 2022 Dubai, Alimentaria Barcelona 2022 Spain and most recently Food+Beverage Indonesia.

"This would build on the MPIG's capacity and knowledge on the sensitisation of current market trends and market access," Nurmala said.
