The new wave of COVID-19, fuelled by the highly infectious Delta variant, prompted the reintroduction of restriction and lockdowns around the globe to suppress the rate of COVID-19 cases. The restrictions have caused the decline in economic activity and put pressure on the economic growth and recovery in Indonesia and globally.

Exporting products could be a daunting exercise for uninformed SMEs. Standards have to be met, certification have to be obtained, and products have to be delivered in accordance with agreed time schedules. Exporting to the Europe is no exception. The Ministry of National Planning Agency (Bappenas) is designing a new approach to promote SME development in Indonesia by integrating support delivered by various ministries and agencies. Close interactions with foreign buyers are an integral element of the new approach to better understand opportunities and challenges for export-oriented SMEs.

Risk-based food control system is mentioned in Article 50 of Government Regulation No. 86/2019 concerning Food Safety, which states that "In order to strengthen the control of Food Safety, Quality and Nutrition, the head of National Agency for Drug and Food Control coordinates the following activities: (a) food safety risk assessment; (b) food safety risk management; and (c) food safety risk communication.

ARISE+ Indonesia is facilitating a training and focus group discussion for the government stakeholders on the key findings and recommendations of the Initial Report on Supplier Development Programme Fundamentals. The training session will be followed by a discussion on the next steps, including consultations with the private sector stakeholders, and an outline of the proposed discussion points for these consultations.
