Nutmeg is at high risk of contamination with mycotoxins (aflatoxin, ochratoxin and others). Testing for aflatoxin and ochratoxin contamination is needed to comply with the international trading regulations, especially before entering the EU. Ensuring the food safety and quality of nutmeg is crucial to avoid economic losses due to rejection of the products in the international trading.

One of the key steps required to develop a trade strategy is to undertake a market analysis. This involves research on specific markets including the demand level, market share distribution, prices, access requirements such tariffs and non-tariff measures amongst other important information. The International Trade Centre has developed several tools aimed at supporting enterprises and policy makers on market analysis.
